        The national campaign „You have the right to know!”  

      During June – September 2008, the Association for the Promotion of Women in Romania is organising the national campaign „You have the right to know!” , activity which is part of the project “PROACTIVE NGO - Promotion, Action and Instruction for NGOs” financed by the European Union through Phare 2005 Programmme Consolidation of Democracy in Romania – Component 2 - Democracy, human rights, democratic state, independence of justice and fight against corruption. The campaign „You have the right to know!” aims to inform more than 1000 NGOs in the country regarding the importance of monitoring and advocacy activity in influencing the decision-taking process, inducing legislative change, raising transparency in public institutions and improving public policies which concern various social disadvantaged groups. The campaign is organised with the support of the 15 NGOs participants in the project. Posters and flyers will be diseminated to organisations that activate in the field of human rights; more than 2000 postal cards will be sent informing Romanian organisations about the role of monitoring and advocacy activity in the work of an ONG, and a 15 seconds video clip, promoting the message of the campaign, will be broadcasted on local television stations and the project web site.. During all this, the web site of the project www.ongproactiv.ro will be an open resource, providing thorough information and examples of good practices in the area, also providing consultancy services in monitoring and advocacy with the support of a discussion forum, which all interested organisations and individuals can join.

 

 

 
   
        The training “Enhancing the role of advocacy activities”  

      Part of the project project “PROACTIVE NGO - Promotion, Action and Instruction for NGOs” financed by the European Union through Phare 2005 Programmme Consolidation of Democracy in Romania – Component 2, a training session was held on 17-20th April 2008, called “Enhancing the advocacy role of NGOs”. The trainingul lasted for 4 days, comprising a total of 24 hours of work. The meeting with representatives of 14 organisations included in the project was held at Hotel Transilvania in Sighisoara, where the training session was held and all participants were accomodated. The themes on the work agenda of the training: Key-concepts in advocacy, identifyind the need for advocacy, establishing the purpose and objectives of the advocacy activity and evaluation of the advocacy process. The training contributed to reaching one of the project objectives, that is developing the advocacy competence of the 14 participant NGOs.
